About Us

Our Story

The Refugee Research & Innovation Network (RRIN) was born out of a vision to create a world where displacement does not limit opportunity. Based in London, UK, RRIN brings together researchers, practitioners, technologists, and refugee communities to co-create solutions that are not only innovative but deeply human.

Founded by a group of academics and humanitarian practitioners committed to bridging research and practical action, RRIN emerged from the recognition that refugees are often seen only as beneficiaries rather than active contributors to society. Our mission is to redefine the narrative around displacement, positioning refugees as innovators, leaders, and changemakers.

RRIN delivers evidence-based research shaping policies that improve refugee access to housing, healthcare, education, and integration across the UK today

Empowering Refugee Entrepreneurs

RRIN has supported refugee-led small businesses through training, mentorship, and digital tools, enabling them to access markets, secure funding, and create sustainable livelihoods. One participant, Fatima, a Syrian refugee, turned her traditional embroidery skills into an online business reaching customers across Europe, thanks to RRN’s innovation lab.

Digital Education for Displaced Youth

Our digital learning programs provide accessible education to refugee children and youth in the UK and abroad. RRIN partnered with local schools and tech companies to develop mobile-friendly platforms, ensuring learners can continue education despite displacement. Ahmed, a 14-year-old refugee, shared, “I can learn and connect with my peers even though I had to leave my home. I feel hopeful again.”

Mental Health & Psychosocial Support Initiatives

Through community-led workshops and online counseling tools, RRIN addresses the mental health challenges of displacement. Our programs provide culturally sensitive support, training local volunteers to act as first responders in refugee communities.
