Refugee Mental Health & Wellbeing Co-Creation Project
Strengthening Mental Health Support Through Community Co-Creation

We are pleased to introduce the Refugee Mental Health & Wellbeing Co-Creation Project (2026–2027) — a new initiative focused on improving mental health outcomes for refugees and asylum seekers through community-led design and culturally responsive support.

Recognising the complex emotional and psychological challenges many refugees face, this project creates safe spaces where participants, mental health professionals and community organisations work together to co-create accessible and effective wellbeing services.

A Community-Led Approach to Wellbeing

The project centres on collaboration and lived experience. Refugees will actively shape the design of wellbeing programmes through workshops, listening sessions and peer-led activities. These sessions will explore practical strategies to support resilience, social connection and emotional wellbeing.

Activities will include group wellbeing workshops, peer support networks and culturally sensitive mental health education. The programme will also provide training for community facilitators to strengthen long-term, sustainable support within refugee communities.

Building Inclusive and Sustainable Support Systems

The initiative aims to strengthen partnerships between refugee communities, healthcare providers and local organisations. By testing and refining co-created wellbeing models, the project will generate evidence to inform future mental health services and policy development.

Key outcomes include improved access to culturally appropriate mental health resources, stronger peer support networks and increased awareness of wellbeing practices among participants.

Looking Ahead

By the end of 2027, the Refugee Mental Health & Wellbeing Co-Creation Project seeks to establish scalable, community-driven approaches that promote healing, resilience and social inclusion. Ongoing updates and participant stories will highlight the project’s progress and impact.
